Microsoft Outlook 2010: What’s New?

We have been covering  new features in Office 2010 for a few months now, and have brought you several detailed articles on Word 2010, Excel 2010, PowerPoint 2010, and OneNote 2010. It is time to have a look at the new features in Outlook 2010.

Outlook Social Connector (OSC)

This is perhaps the greatest new addition to Outlook 2010 which you will definitely love to use.  It brings the social views of your friends/contacts right in to your inbox. This connector provides you with a stream of content from SharePoint, Windows Live and other famous social networking sites. At the bottom of your Outlook emails, you will see the latest social networking posts of your contact.

Quick Steps

The Quick Steps feature of Outlook 2010 lets you consolidate multiple steps into one. So once you will click the Quick Step, it’s relevant multiple steps (as per your configuration) will occur. You can locate the Quick Steps option under the Home menu.

Publish Online

The Publish Online feature lets your Outlook 2010 calendar synchronize with Office Online or a WebDAV server. Thus in this way geographically-dispersed project teams are able to publish their personal and team calendar data online.

Office Backstage

The Office Backstage(File tab) is a very useful feature which has been added to all the major applications within Office 2010. Outlook 2010 also includes this feature and allow users to easily save attachments, access account settings, clean their mailbox, and configure other settings.

Scheduled View

Outlook 2010 includes a new schedule feature called Scheduled View which provides a better insight into your daily schedule, as recorded in your Outlook calendar. You can find this option located under the Home menu when you are inside the Schedule tab(which can be selected from bottom of the left-sidebar).

OneNote Integration

Just like the other applications in Office 2010, OneNote 2010 has been integrated into Outlook 2010 as well. This option is located under the Home menu.

Microsoft has outdone it’s competitors this time by making it more user-friendly, the complete UI change is one thing. Users who ditched Outlook 2007 might want to give Outlook 2010 a shot. Ofcourse not every product is perfect but it has enough reasons to persuade users to return. Now Thunderbird users can put their hopes on Mozilla, lets see how Thunderbird 3 shall fare. Enjoy!
