  5. Good firewall (Privatefirewall)

    User opinion: My favorite software based firewall.

    Has all the features you would want in a proactive software based firewall. I use this on my work laptop when I travel. Works great and fairly easy to use.

    I have seen this product rebranded for other companies. Excellent product in my opinion and use.

  6. Not all that easy (Easy ICON Maker)

    User opinion: The ultimate test with any software is quot;does it work?quot; In this case my experience was that it did not work. The application kept crashing.

    I contacted the provider and got no response then finally found a free icon maker that worked fine and uninstalled Easy Icon Maker.

    My $29.00 investment was totally wasted.

    User opinion: Built its index really fast.
    Finds files really fast.
    Tidy well designed interface.
    Lots of setup options, allowing you to associate programs with file types for specific actions such as Edit, Execute and View for example.
    It only took me a few minutes to set up, run a few searches, see how good it was and immediately decide to put a copy on my other PC as well.
    It doesn#039;t appear to search file contents but I don#039;t really want that, and certainly not if that would make it a lot slower and eat a lot of processing power like some other desktop search programs I#039;ve tried in the past.

    Unfortunately Nufsoft products of this line (WIS, NIS, APSSC) no longer run on 98 or 95 … says need to upgrade Windows.

  10. Tops for detecting malware (Avira AntiVir Premium)

    User opinion: Consistently scores at the top or among the top for actual malware detection,which is the most important factor.
    A HIPS component is now being Beta tested,so should be available soon,which will make it even more powerful.
    Does not slow a reasonably powerful machine down at all,loads very quickly.Nice modern interface.
    Auto updates happen without any problems and the servers are only overloaded on rare occasions.
    The only possible doubt is the occasional false positive.
    No real drawbacks at all-a top antivirus program!
