  2. Panorama Maker – Stitch 360 Degree Cylindrical Panoramas

    by

We have covered two tools before that allow you to create Panoramas instantly – Microsoft Image Composite Editor and CleVR Stitcher. Both allow users to create panoramas quickly.

I recently came across Instant Pano which is a free tool to make panoramas. But unlike other tools, it makes 360 degree cylindrical panoramas and is good at it. Before you stitch the photos, you will have to calculate the number of shots(calculate parameters) which can be done using a build-in tool. The photos will be stitched according to the parameters defined.

    EasyPano Instant Pano

Files can be imported in JPEG or JPG format, since most cameras save the image in this format this shouldn’t be much of a problem. Detailed instructions for settings and taking panorama photos is given on developer’s page as separate links.

    Download Easypano Instant Pano

It is a simple tool developed in Java and works on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Enjoy!

  3. Modi – Free Advanced Image Processor

    by

When it comes to batch processing images, we have already reviewed Image Tuner. But today I found another batch image processor which is worth covering called Modi.

What makes Modi different is that it allows user to add different modifiers and then batch process the images according to the defined modifiers. Another interesting feature is that it supports plugins which further extend the functionalities. At the time of writing there are three plugins available – Unsharp Mask, Sharpen, and AutoLevel. The later plugin increases the performance of the app further.

The usage is quite simple, just hit Add Files button and add the images that you want to process. Now once all images have been added, hit Add Modifier button, select the desired modifiers from the drop-down list, and hit Add.

    Modi Image Processor

The following modifiers are available – Auto Level, Auto Rotate, Black & White, Frame, Image Watermark, Print EXIF, Resize, Sepia Tone, and Text Watermark.

    Image Modifiers

Once the desired Modifiers have been added, you can select the Output destination folder, choose the right Writer, and hit Go. There is also an option to save all present modifiers so that they can be loaded later quickly.

The best part is that it allows you to preview the final result(which is quite fast) no matter how many modifiers you have added.

    Image Preview

Overall, I have to say that it is one complete image processor with advanced modifier options. Which means both amateur and professional photographers are going to love this tool. Want to give it a try? Hit the link below.

    Download Modi

It is a portable tool and works on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003/2008, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Enjoy!

  4. Compare Word Documents

    September 29, 2009 by

Recently I came across a service called TextFlow that allows user to compare different versions of the same document. It only supports Txt, Rtf, Doc, and Docx formats.

There can be multiple uses of this service, such as, if you want to give your document for proof reading, later you can compare the original and modified document using this service. The changes in the document are highlighted.

It also has a cross-platform Abobe Air app that works on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. It allows user to compare different documents straight from the desktop.

    TextFlow

It does have quite some limitations, such as limited support for documents, works with text documents only(images, graphs, flowcharts, etc not supported), and can compare up to 10 pages only.

The developers it seems made it for the purpose of comparing Word Documents. During my testing .Docx couldn’t open due to some bug while .Doc format worked fine. You can export the documents in both Doc and HTML format.

    TextFlow

Nevertheless this can be used for small document collaborations. And in case you are still not satisfied, Microsoft Word has compare document feature build-in too. Enjoy!

  7. Upload Document, Spreadsheet & PowerPoint To Live Skydrive [Office 2010]

    September 28, 2009 by

You must have heard by now that Microsoft Office 2010 will have an option to upload Word Documents, Excel Spreadsheets, and PowerPoint Presentations directly to Windows Live Skydrive.

So far nobody knows how it will look like since there has been no solid leads or screenshots. The option will only be available in the final release and is not included in Office 2010 Technical Preview(or at least this is the case with me). This makes sense since Microsoft plans to make Office Web Apps available on the Office 2010 launch date.

Luckily, Microsoft Office team gives a short hint about the functionality along with a screenshot in their official Office Web Apps Document. Point 8, titled Use Office Web Apps With Office 2010 says the following:

Open and save your documents to SkyDrive directly from within select Office 2010 client applications on your computer (via Microsoft Office Backstage view).

The screenshot provided is as follows,

    save to windows live skydrive

Click the screenshot above to enlarge

This option can be found in the Share tab inside the Microsoft Office Backstage View. The interesting part is that not only can you upload documents to Live Skydrive but also open them directly in Office 2010.

Unless we don’t get our hands on this feature, we can’t comment much about it. But from the screenshot we can say that it organizes both User Personal Folders and Folders that Are Shared With The User. You have an option to create a new folder or refresh them. Just select the folder where you want to save the document and hit Save As, you are done. Enjoy!

  8. Start-Q: Change Windows Startup Programs Load Order

    by

We all know that Windows allow users to add/remove startup programs quickly, but what if you want to change the startup order?

If you are looking to speed up your Windows login then changing the startup programs order is important. There are many applications that load during startup and most are not even needed at that time. Windows will load them all(gives equal priority to all), therefore reducing the startup time and eating maximum memory.

Start-Q(Start Quick) plans to change all that by helping user select which programs to launch first and which one later. It allows users to assign higher priority to some programs and lower priority to others. Therefore in other words, it speeds up your Windows login and startup.

When you run the tool under Administrator account, it will ask if you want to change the startup order for your account only or for all accounts.

    Start-Q

    Start-Q startup programs

You can add the programs in queue so that each program is loaded turn by turn. It doesn’t help users who have already cleaned many of their startup entries, but will surly help those with lower or medium-end computers filled with multiple startup programs.

    Download Start-Q

It works with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Enjoy!

    September 27, 2009 by

eDoc Organizer is a free document management software that allows users to scan and import documents. You can import Word document, Excel spreadsheet, PowerPoint presentations, PDF documents, and XPS documents.

Once you have imported all document files, they will be listed in the main window. From here you can perform a quick search, change the sort order, and apply the filter.

    eDoc Organizer

The documents appear in thumbnail, if you want to make the thumbnail smaller, drag the zoom slider towards negative sign(at the bottom). You can also add labels and link a document to any specific label, to do so you simply have to drag & drop the labels on the document.

Labels are a great way to organize the documents. You can label the documents for a specific month, and then later if you need to find a document for any month you can apply the filter which will sort out the documents.

    eDoc Organzier labels

What I like specifically is the the Scan feature, you can scan the pages and save them as XPS document or merge pages into one complete document. There are loads of options available, such as, Scan type, Quality, Correction, etc.

  10. Completely Delete A User Along With The Associated Home Directory In Ubuntu Linux

    by

Whenever you create a user in Ubuntu it’s respective directory is created in the /home partition of the system. Whenever you remove a user the system deletes it’s entries from each and every location, except it’s relevant directory in /home. Linux Distributions do not remove the home directory of a user when the user is deleted. Let me guide you how to remove a user along with its home directory.

In order to confirm the above statement, Go to System > Administration > User and Group option. Here is the dialogue box which is displayed.

    User Accounts

New Users can be created from the Add user button and a user can be deleted from the Delete button. Here is message which is displayed when you delete user, it says that the  /home directory of the user will not be removed.

    Home Directory Not Removed

Now to remove a user along with its home directory, open the terminal and run the following command to delete the user completely.

    sudo deluser –remove-home username

where “username” should be replaced with the name of the user that you wish to delete. Just as an example, in order to delete the user aun, run the command as follows:

    sudo deluser –remove-home aun

    That’s it. Enjoy!
